Founder & CEO
Her first start-up, 3dim Tech Inc, received the grand prize of the MIT $100K entrepreneurship competition in 2013, selected in the Global Founders' Skill Accelerator and was acquired in 2014. She founded Circular2 in 2014. Her past work includes flexible and customizable printed sensing surfaces for gestural control, time-of-flight modules for 3D gesture tracking, and wearable sensing for dynamic management of ubiquitous media.
She publishes her research extensively at top-tier computer science conferences and journals including best papers at CHI, UbiComp, UIST and IEEE pervasive magazine. She worked in a number of industrial research labs, among them Microsoft Research and the Nokia Research Center, and is currently assigned as the R&D lead of Project Jacquard at Google ATAP. She holds a PhD and MS degree in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Lab and a MS in Materials Science and Engineering from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.
Laurel S. Pardue
CTO, President UK Division
Dr. Laurel S. Pardue is acting CTO and leads prototyping and development for Circular 2 in the UK. Laurel has a broad background from working with industry leaders Avid as a ProTools software systems engineer, to prototyping and programming novel instrument and interface designs with startups Keda Music and Visual Music Systems, to award winning management experience as an US Air Force Officer and UN Peacekeeper. She holds four degrees from MIT in electronics, programming, and music and recently completed a PhD at Queen Mary University of London with the Centre for Digital Music where she is part of the Bela.io team. Laurel also performs as a professional freelance violinist in the London area.
Special Project Manager
Jennifer Brine is a Special Project Manager at Circular2 overseeing product development and prototyping projects. Prior to joining Circular2, she was a Mechanical Designer at Alogus Innovation & Design, where she gained strong CAD skills and experiences designing complex injection molded parts. She gained her expertise in machinery design at Hardesty & Hanover, where she worked with complex interfaces between structural, mechanical, and electrical systems of heavy movable structures, including movable bridges and stadium roofs. She previously held an engineering product support position where she managed technical sales and a network of distributors for a portfolio of industrial, commercial, and municipal clients. She received her BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Vermont.
Special Project Lead
New Venture Discovery
Melody Chao is a Special Project Lead at Circular2, specializing in venture development in the technology sector. Prior to joining the New Venture Discovery Team, she was a Credit Risk Analyst Intern at Jentech Precision Industrial Co., a publicly traded technology firm in the semiconductor industry in Taiwan. She has consulting and project management experiences from Apex Industries Co., a boutique trade and engineering consulting firm in Shanghai, China. She received her BSBA degree in finance from Boston University.
